Expanding medical equipment company make their next move in Bromsgrove with help from GJS Dillon

March 2022

An expanding business is looking forward to moving to new premises in Bromsgrove shortly.

Hugo Technology Ltd, an independent medical equipment repair, maintenance and management company, is relocating some of its operations and staff to the Stoke Heath Works in Bromsgrove. The former Barton Firtop site is on the A38, only two and a half miles from junction 5 of the M5.

The company was originally based in Wychbold before moving to Bromsgrove in 2003. Almost 20 years later, they are now expanding fast and taking over the 19,770 sq ft site. Facilities at Stoke Heath Works include a 9,189 sq ft high bay warehouse and 10,581 sq ft of manufacturing space. Some of the company’s staff are also moving into the 1,720 sq ft of office accommodation available.

Over the years the company has seen a number of benefits from being based in Bromsgrove. Hugo Technology transports goods across the UK, so they are ideally located in the middle of the country. Being close to a local labour force has also improved their chances of employing staff who want to live and work in the same vicinity.

Warwick Oakey, Hugo Technology’s Finance & Operations Director says there are a number of reasons for the company’s success:

‘During the last two years there has been increased reliance on medical equipment but that’s not the only reason for our expansion. What we do is quite niche and over the last three years we’ve been actively marketing ourselves to bigger companies. We are now better known in the field and following Brexit, many people want to work with local companies based in the UK.’

Andrew Lewis, GJS Dillon’s Agency Director negotiated the lettings but work needed to be done before handover as Warwick explains:

‘Andrew has been really helpful throughout the process. It’s not been the easiest transaction because there were quite a lot of things that needed sorting out with the building. But Andrew has been very good in terms of getting that all resolved. ’

‘We were delighted to help Hugo Technology find these new premises’ says Andrew ‘As identified in our recent Commercial Property Market report, there is a huge demand from SMES looking to exploit Bromsgrove’s excellent transport connections. So new accommodation is urgently needed to cater for this demand.’
